Amanda Derhake of St. Clair, Missouri, principal engineer and senior partner with Rocksmith Geoengineering, earned a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences in 1999, a master’s degree in environmental engineering in 2002 and a Ph.D. in civil engineering in 2006, all from Missouri S&T. As a student, she excelled academically, played collegiate soccer for four years and was an active member of the Eta Kappa chapter of Chi Omega. Derhake has worked in environmental consulting for 18 years and is now part-owner of Rocksmith Geoengineering, an environmental and geological engineering consulting firm. She and her husband, Bob, are busy professionals raising a family with 7-, 9- and 11-year-old children. They play soccer, basketball, volleyball and football, and have the makings of budding engineers or scientists — three future Miners.
