Brett Hanke received his BSCE from UMR in 1972 and his MS in Engineering Management in 1984. Commissioned through UMR’s Army ROTC Program, Brett’s career began as an engineer officer with the 82nd Airborne Division. After eight years in various assignments and at the rank of Captain, he left the active Army, but stayed in the Missouri National Guard. From 1980 until 2004, he worked for Booker Associates, Sauget, Illinois, and was the Director of Public Works for Granite City, Collinsville, Illinois and Wentzville, Missouri. In 2002 he retired from the Army as a Colonel. In 2004 Brett returned to active duty, serving a tour in Iraq, where he was responsible for the $4 billion reconstruction program for water and wastewater facilities. He was a security engineer for SAIC until retiring in 2007. In 2009 he came out of retirement and formed Hanke Constructors. Brett took up sky diving while in the Army, and has over 100 jumps. He also enjoys karate and holds a 6th degree black belt. Brett has three children, who have all served tours in Iraq. He and his wife, Ann, enjoy their family and farming for fitness near Wentzville, where he can be recognized as being “out standing in his field,” using 1930s vintage farm equipment.
