Amy Strauss received her BSCE then MSCE from UMR in 1990 and 1991, respectively. She began her engineering career as a co-op student with Springfield City Utilities, and has progressed through many aspects of the Utilities’ systems and is currently a Senior Engineer in Power Generation. Amy is responsible for the management of various power plant projects as well as process monitoring and projects to increase efficiency. Over the years, Amy has been very active with the Ozark Chapter of MSPE. She chaired S&T’s Civil Engineering Department’s Advisory Council, has co-chaired the Greater Ozarks Chapter, American Red Cross’ “Every Day Heroes Event,” and served as Board Chair of the Red Cross Chapter, assisting the Red Cross efforts to acquire and renovate a building for office expansion. Following the Joplin tornado last year, Amy was deployed as part of SEMA’s Structural Assessment Visual Evaluation Team. Amy was the NSPE National Young Engineer of the Year in 2000. Amy has two teenage sons and she and husband, Gary, live in Springfield, Mo.
