About Eric Shumate, PE

Eric Shumate of Riverside, Missouri, earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Missouri S&T in 1996. He also earned a master’s degree in civil engineering (hydraulics) from the University of Iowa in 1998. He has been with the Army Corps of Engineers since 2004. His position as deputy district engineer for programs and project management is the highest civilian role in a Corps of Engineers district. Throughout his USACE career, he has been able to participate in numerous rewarding projects — locally, nationally, and globally.

Shumate maintains engagement with S&T, including giving technical talks, attending campus and alumni activities, recruiting visits for career fairs, and supporting student groups. He has held various civic roles, including alderman for the City of Kearney, City of Kearney planning and zoning commissioner, and serving on various church committees. He has received numerous awards, including the Army Engineer Regiment Bronze Order of the de Fleury Medal. 

Eric has been married to his wife, Michelle, for 32 years and they have two adult children: Anthony and Brooklyn. Eric enjoys hunting, traveling, scuba diving, and being a fan of the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs.
